For the third time the International Conference on HIPIMS (High Power Impulse Magnetron Sputtering) took place in Brunswick.
The International Conference on HIPIMS replaced the Sheffield HIPIMS Days since 2009. The organisation is shared by Sheffield Hallam University, the Fraunhofer IST and the Network of Competence INPLAS. The venue of the Conference is alternately in Sheffield or in Brunswick.
120 participants from 26 countries from all over the world met each other in Brunswick. They caught up on current trends and results in industry and research. Up to 18 companies showed their presence at the industrial exhibition and provided the opportunity for exchanging experiences.
Even before the Conference started the tutorials of the SVC (Society of Vacuum Coaters-US) were held on the 8th and 9th of June at the Fraunhofer IST. Fundamentals and application possibilities of HIPIMS technology have been conveyed to interested attendees.
The evening event started with a joint extra tour to the stadium of the local soccer team Eintracht Braunschweig by tram. Here all participants had to pass varoius stations concerning accuracy and speed with the ball.
The prize for the best student contribution at the Conference went to Felipe de Campos Carreri. The young researcher is doing his doctoral study at the Fraunhofer IST and is supported by a Brazilian scholarship.
