It is our pleasure to inform you on the INPLAS talks 2013 with the topic »Approaches for modeling technical plasma discharges« to be held on 10th of September 2013 at the Fraunhofer Institute for Surface Engineering and Thin Films IST in Braunschweig, Germany.


Technical plasmas play an important role in surface modification and deposition of functional coatings for a large variety of products.

Plasma modeling is increasingly recognized as a tool to efficiently optimize plasma sources of various designs and operating under various conditions, and to accelerate the transfer of lab-scale processes into industrial production lines. For the accurate numerical description of technical plasma regimes different and often complementary modeling approaches, e.g. those based on continuum dynamics or particle based algorithms, are used. An important issue also is the availability of validated data regarding plasma chemical reactions and plasma surface interaction, which requires joining experimentally working groups with modeling experts.

The topics covered on the workshop will be equally interesting for users and potential users of plasma modeling in industry and academia. The workshop organizers hope to inspire fruitful discussions and new ideas for joint development activities for improved plasma sources and new cost-efficient plasma processes.
