The ambition of the work of the Fraunhofer FEP is to open up and to utilize the innovative potential of electron beam and plasma technology in manufacturing processes and the plant engineering for the clients. Research and development facilities are characterized by being closely related to the industry and its customer focus. Thereby the Fraunhofer FEP has in mind the development of innovative technologies well as its cost-efficiency in the production.

Background for the work is the core competences electron beam technology, pulse magnetron sputtering and plasma activated high-rate sputtering. These core competences are constantly being advanced and utilized in innovative deparments. These departments contain vacuum coating as well as surface development and usage with electron and plasma. Besides the development of safety systems, products and technologies another main focus lies on the up scaling of the technologies for coating and usage of big areas with high production.
