Plasma surface technique inspires parliamentarians

The members of the German Bundestag, Dr. Carola Reimann, chairman of the committee for health, and Mr. Röspel, Mitglied of the committee for education, research and technology assessment, visited the office of the INPLAS e.V. - Network of Competence Industrial Plasma Surface Technology.

"How long does it take until a solar cell is amortized ?" - "It takes half a year. With glass for protecting against heat only three days." describes Professor Bräuer.

Such development leaps are possible only with the help of the plasma surface technique. And this technology continues to intervene much further in developments, which we use today. In the area of „renewable energies", as well as for optical data memories such as CD, DVD, Blu Ray, for high-duty tools, reflex-poor and scratch-proof eyeglass lenses and in the medical technology plasma plays a crucial role.

The promotion of technical developments with high innovative ability is connected to a large economical potential and with it to jobs. From earlier visits of the Fraunhofer Institute in Braunschweig, many applications are already well-known to Dr. Reimann. Beyond that she supported INPLAS in March 2009 at the organization of a parliamentary evening in Berlin, in which many delegates were informed about the possibilities of plasma surface technique.

On the visit at the Fraunhofer IST Dr. Michael Thomas, group leader for atmospheric pressure plasma procedures, showed the two parliamentarians „the plasma in bags "- substantial result of the research project "InnoSurf ". Hereby the question is to procure sterile and biochemical functionalized bags for breeding and keeping of cell cultures by using atmospheric pressure procedures.

Both parliamentarians were impressed by the developments and carried important experiences forward, in order to merge it into their parliamentary work and to increase the degree of fame of the plasma technology effectively.
