Workshop 'International Standardization of Carbon Films' This workshop follows previous workshops held 2008 in Korea and 2009 in Japan. It is intended to share the worldwide status of carbon film classifications and standards and to step forward to a common international standardization work. Carbon film specialists from Korea, Japan, USA and Netherlands will talk about the status of carbon films and the national standardization in their countries. The need for an international standardization will be debated with the workshop participants in a panel discussion.
Carbon-based coatings are very well established in many industrial applications. They are offered worldwide from coating suppliers in a large range of different film types: amorphous carbon coatings (diamond-like carbon, DLC) as well as CVD diamond coatings. The potential end-users are confronted with a large variety of film sub-types, abbreviations, deposition techniques and brand names. This fact as well as the international supplier-customer relationships give the strong demand for an international standardization of carbon films to establish a clear terminology and a worldwide common understanding of this matter, especially at the industrial end-users.
The workshop is organized as a session of the 12th International Conference on Plasma Surface Engineering (PSE) (September 13th - 17th, 2010, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany).
Place and Time of the workshop on Wednesday September 15th, 2010, 9:25 - 12:05 h
in the Congress Center, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany
